Scar Removal Options for the Average Joe

Removing or healing scars are usually associated with expensive procedures that most average Joes think only moneyed individuals can manage to pay for. While it is indeed true that these expensive procedures are some of the most effective scar removal options available to us at this time, it is just not the option that most people can take due to financial issues. Fortunately, there are already some methods available to the average Joe that are more or less more feasible in the financial sense.

But before we get into these effective scar treatment options suitable for those with limited budget, let us first assess the methods being falsely peddled as cheap methods but in reality are not effective at all.

While there are a lot of options out there that are not very expensive, most of them are, unfortunately, quite ineffective and are simply a waste of your money and time.

Creams based on vitamin E – there are a host of products out there that claim to help in getting rid of scars or reduce the manifestation of scars through the help of vitamin E. However, scientific studies done to confirm this have shown no proof of vitamin E’s effectiveness in treating scars. As a matter of fact, studies showed that there may be about 30% chance that it will result in an allergic reaction. One benefit that vitamin E provides is that it is a good moisturizer but it does nothing to help get rid of scarring.

Onion extracts-based products – a popular example of such product is Mederma which in a study has been shown to be just as effective as the placebo used, which basically is not saying much in favor of the product. Experts are even advising doctors to tell their patients that onion extracts based products will neither cause harm nor benefits as far as their scarring problems are concerned. They will basically just waste money for it though..

Other products derived from natural stuff such as cocoa butter, aloe vera, lime juice, cucumber are likewise being sold out there to be a substitute solutions to scarring troubles but neither of them have been tested clinically to prove their claims.

Good news is that there are already available options that are more affordable than expensive dermatologists and cosmetic doctors and the great part is, they are only topical treatments unlike invasive surgical methods. Such topical products are based on silicone like silicone sheets and gels that you merely apply onto scars. Clinical trials have been done to show that this route is today’s golden standard in scar removal.

Scar removal methods that use silicone gels and sheets are thought to be better as they do not require invasive surgical options and hence are rather pain-free. An added bonus is that they cost significantly lower compared to other effect surgical options. This process is even better when done in the earlier stages of skin wound healing and is standard operating procedure in treating burns.

Good scar treatment doesn’t have to be painful and expensive as its surgical alternatives because there are more convenient, cheaper methods available that are backed up by scientific proof to be effective and beneficial.

The skin health market is filled with ineffective products. Become a more discerning buyer and don’t get fooled. A little research will never hurt and may save you time and money. To find out more about where to best get the best skin firming creams, do check out the author’s website.
