We have all heard the expression of “there is no I in team,” but there is never a lot of explanation about the reason for it. Sure, literally we know how to spell the word team, but there is a much larger reason to work together as a team. Many times that you hear the word team, you associate it with sports or other activities, but it is also important in your career. The ability to work together and act selfless is instrumental in your company’s ability to reach its goals, without team work there is no synergy, no combined effort towards a greater good.
In my experience of being a consultant for many anti wrinkle aging products, I have discovered that many wrinkle cream companies often use one active ingredient in their formulas. While that active ingredients may have a reputable name and may even be effective it is nowhere near as effective as it could be with a team of ingredients working together. The very best wrinkle cream or systems of creams combine multiple respectable anti aging ingredients together, to work in combination with one another to achieve greater results, and without exception that is what it accomplishes.
Now I understand that you are not an ingredient, nor is your company a wrinkle cream, but this is a great example of how the right combination can work together to reach greater results that any one individual can alone. For example, in many results oriented work environments, individuals are expected to reach personal quotas, or goals. And essentially provided that these individuals do their expected jobs, the person next to them bears little affect to them at all. But when these two individuals work together, motivating, competing and even keeping the moral up during tough times, together the two can reach a higher goal. It is proven time and time again, when you feel like you are working together on a goal vs. being alone in the struggle it becomes psychologically easier for everyone to get their jobs done.
This is why you are often placed in teams within an office, or why you hear of office competitions, or company contests, because when your mind alters the way it is thinking about reaching that goal everything becomes easier. It is much easier to let yourself down than it is to let yourself, your co workers and your company down. The result is a higher effort of work as well as a more efficient approach to your job.
Now many of you may be thinking that this is nothing other than office management rhetoric and that it does not really help. For those of you who feel this way, I have a question for you…..does it hurt your work? Will it get in the way of reaching your quota? I challenge you to prove this theory wrong. For the next 90 days be the perfect employee, motivated, helpful, and god forbid, positive and see where it gets you. Now it must last for 90 days because it takes 90 days for your behavior to become a pattern and begin to affect those around you. If after 90 days of being the perfect teammate, the positive employee, the motivated individual every single day, you will see a change in the direction of your career. You will realize the error of your way and you will turn the corner to a much more rewarding career.
Just like a wrinkle cream, when you and your coworkers are focused on achieving a goal together, the success is magnified dramatically. When you embrace the idea of working together in synergy, just like anti aging ingredients, excelling at your job becomes easier, even simple. The best wrinkle creams work by combining the best ingredients, if you are the best ingredient that your company can find and you also work well with others, it is not long before your company becomes the best at what it does.
