Anti aging skin care products are big business. The market is crowded with such products and the industry’s growth shows no sign of slowing. People are always interested in looking younger and consumers are willing to pay nearly any price for a product which can give them the healthy, youthful looking skin they want.
It goes without saying that this accounts for the popularity and continual growth of cosmetic surgery; a multi-billion dollar industry. The same goes for the anti aging skin cream market as well. Millions if not billions are spent by consumers annually for these products. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these products are ineffective, being manufactured by companies who know there is always money to be made by trading on this aspect of human nature.
This is not to say that there are not some excellent products out there; in fact there are plenty. If you’d like to learn more about telling quality products apart from the anti aging skin cream pack, this article is for you.
Steer clear of any skin creams which contain fragrances. People like to smell nice when they apply their anti aging skin care products, but these fragrances are largely chemically derived and are often toxic. Toxins are easily absorbed through your skin, so avoid these products – your skin and your health will be better for it.
As far as fragrances are concerned, you’re really better off using perfume; unlike an anti aging skin cream, these are not typically massaged into the skin and cover a much smaller surface area.
You’ll also want to pass by the anti aging skin care products which loudly proclaim their collagen content. The makers of these products are simply counting on the ignorance of consumers about how collagen works. We all know that the wrinkles and sags in our skin as we age occur as out skin’s collagen begins to break down – so many people are under the impression that using a collagen containing skin care product will help them to get back their youthful look.
However, this is not how things really work. Collagen cannot get into the skin in a topical application; the molecules are simply too large to be absorbed into the skin. There are products out there which can help you with your collagen, but only because they contain ingredients which stimulate your body to produce its own collagen. Anti aging skin care products which contain collagen are expensive and simply put, don’t work!
The largest part of the operating budget at most skin care product manufacturers is marketing, not product research and development. They’d rather put their energy into selling you ineffective products than developing ones which really produce results for the user. This is why you’re always better off choosing products made by smaller companies who are more concerned with creating a quality anti aging skin care product than with their advertising campaigns.
The smaller players in the skin care industry have lower overheads and are focused on product development instead of dedicating their budget to garnering celebrity endorsements. As a product researcher myself, my job is to find the products made by these smaller companies; and they are almost universally better than those made by the household names.
What you should seek out are skin care products which have ingredients which promote the production of collagen naturally; and those made by companies who are more concerned with the quality of their product than with their brand identity.
